Diabetes is causing big problems in Malaysia

Malaysia is a country in South East Asia. Compared to other ASEAN countries, Malaysia is facing difficulties concerning their health. The economic development in Malaysia is growing quickly, but also the health problems. Diabetes is rising in the country.

There are several reasons for this problems, but the most important one is the eating habits. Malaysians have bad eating habits, their food contains a lot of sugar. This is not only causing obesity but also diabetes. On the long term, Malaysia is going to face big problems with their population. The number of diabetics rose from 8 percent to 15 percent in only 5 years. This number will rise to 20 percent in just one or two years.

Diabetes: How Can Malaysia Change?

The first important step that needs to be taken is a change in the eating habits. Malaysians are not aware of the amount of sugar that is consumed. In their drinks and foods, the limits are very high. Also, they did not got a proper education about their food and health. Sometimes they think they live healthy, but this is totally untrue. They go to the Subway Restaurant with the idea they eat a balanced meal. But this is, of course, not true. Therefore the government should give them proper education about the matter.

Diabetes in Malaysia: the Solution

Diabetes in Malaysia should be solved the people themselves, with a little help from the government. There are also organisations who try to help, one of them is the National Diabetes Institute of Malaysia. They also created a diabetes webshop, which makes it easier for patients to order their diabetic products online. This is a huge improvement compared to the local pharmacies.
