Malaysian people are getting diabetes way more often than 10 years ago. This is the result of bad eating habits, which are changing due to the fastfood chains and the sugar consumption. The Malaysian government decided to subsidize sugar two decades ago. They did this to make sugar affordable for all Malaysians. The same was done for example with benzine and diesel.
Indeed, it got affordable for Malaysians to use sugar. But the consumption rose rapidly. Now, sugar is used in every product used by the population. It is too much, say the doctors in the country. When drinking coffee, most Malaysians use at least 3 sugar cubes. In Europe the usage is mostly none or only one. The consumption of sugar results in a high number of diabetics. It is almost 20 percent at the moment.
The government decided to get rid of the sugar subsidizing. With this, they hope to reduce the sugar consumption of the Malaysians. Many economists think it is too late already. The economic developments resulted in a high income rise for most Malaysians. Now, they can pay for sugar. Also without the subsidies. Therefore, the government ruined their own population.
Luckily, there are some companies that try to improve the lives in Malaysia. So is NADI Shoppe, a diabetes webshop in Malaysia. They sell diabetic products to patients for a low price. The products are delivered at home, which makes it very convenient for the patient.
